Jessica Cooper recently received her Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. She completed her B.A. in english and in sociology from Spelman College. Her senior thesis at Spelman College examined the variation in ways that black women tell their personal stories of rape/or sexual abuse in an effort to see if there are common approaches or coping mechanisms that women use to deal with and give voice to their experience. Ms. Cooper has had long interest in teaching and she hopes to make a career in the education field as either a policy maker or as the head of a school district. She has served as a student teacher to first year law students at Howard University School of Law; furthermore she has vast record of community services with youth in Detroit, Atlanta and Washington. Her volunteer experience has allowed her to interact with people from all walks of life. With the experience gained from teaching she plans to be a corps member of Teach for America (TFA), an organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap that exists in the United States' education system. |
